We’ve been shaking things up here at EMT recently!
As the curtain fell over our last performance of Beauty and the Beast in April, so too came the end of an era.
After seven years, two roles and countless hours of dedication and leadership – Ruth Cowie announced she was stepping down as Chairperson of EMT, and Lauren McAnna would be taking over.
Lauren’s move to Chair was followed by our previous Engagement Officer (Sadie B) moving into the Secretary role.
We are now on the hunt for a new addition to our Board to fill the Engagement and Fundraising Officer position!
Do I need previous experience as a trustee or fundraiser to apply?
No. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, including those new to charity governance or fundraising. If you have a passion for community arts and a willingness to learn, we’ll support you with guidance and resources along the way.
How much time will I need to commit to this role?
On average, around 2-4 hours per week, though this may increase during key activity periods such as show weeks, fundraising events, or social gatherings. Flexibility is key, and tasks can often be managed around your own schedule.
Can I do this role remotely?
Many aspects of the role (e.g. planning, communications, fundraising admin) can be done remotely. However, in-person presence is expected for board meetings, show weeks, rehearsals and events. We expect our Board members to be visible and accessible to our casts, production teams and creative teams.
What skills and experience does this role require?
You don’t need to be an expert – we’re looking for someone who is organised, enthusiastic, and a good communicator. Key skills that will help you thrive in the role include:
Event planning – from socials to fundraisers, you’ll help bring people together
Communication – engaging with cast, board members, and community partners
Teamwork – collaborating with other volunteers and supporting shared goals
Creativity – coming up with fun, inclusive ideas to boost engagement and fundraising
Initiative – being proactive and able to manage tasks independently
Experience with fundraising and/or community outreach is a bonus, but not essential. Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who’s passionate about theatre and making a positive impact in the company.
